Moby Trade, FEG, and AST Token Exploited for $3.5M via Key Leaks, Whitelist Bypass, and Burn-Based Price Games

Moby Trade lost $2.5M after a private key compromise let attackers upgrade vault contracts. FEG was drained for $1M when an attacker self-whitelisted in a relayer contract with no access control. AST Token was hit for $65K through price manipulation via reserve burns in the transfer logic.

In Brief

  • AST Token was targeted in a $65K price manipulation attack.
  • Moby Trade suffered a $2.5M private key compromise.
  • FEG lost $1M due to missing access control in the relayer whitelist function.

Hacks Analysis

AST Token | Amount Lost: $65K

On January 21st, the AST token exploit on the Binance Smart Chain resulted in a $65K loss due to a price manipulation vulnerability. The attacker exploited the private _transfer() function which burned AST tokens from the liquidity pool. This caused the AST reserves in the pool to drop significantly, artificially inflating its price. The attacker then swapped AST tokens for USDT at the manipulated price and made a profit.

Moby Trade | Amount Lost: $2.5M

On January 8th, the Moby Trade exploit on the Arbitrum chain resulted in a $2.5M loss due to a private key compromise. The attacker gained control of proxy admin keys and upgraded vault contracts to withdraw assets. The attack targeted Moby Trade’s S_VAULT and M_VAULT. A white hat team from SEAL911 intervened to rescue $1.47M USDC. The Moby Trade team has acknowledged the incident and started investigations.

FEG Token | Amount Lost: $1M

On December 29th, the FEG Token exploit on the Binance Smart Chain resulted in a $1M loss. The root cause of the exploit was missing access controls in the relayer’s whitelist function. The attacker added their contract to the whitelist without verification and set a withdrawable balance. The attacker withdrew the tokens without depositing any on the source chain and swapped them for BNB.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Huobi  |  Amount Lost: $8M

On September 24th, the Huobi Global exploit on the Ethereum Mainnet resulted in a $8 million loss due to the compromise of private keys. The attacker executed the attack in a single transaction by sending 4,999 ETH to a malicious contract. The attacker then created a second malicious contract and transferred 1,001 ETH to this new contract. Huobi has since confirmed that they have identified the attacker and has extended an offer of a 5% white hat bounty reward if the funds are returned to the exchange.
